Hope Cove, South Devon is a beautiful coastal village with two wonderful beaches, ideal for a family holiday. Its location is perfect for coastal walks, family fun on the beach, swimming, paddleboarding or visiting the nearby towns of Salcombe or Kingsbridge. With two sandy beaches, (one being dog friendly) and clear water, Hope Cove is the perfect spot to unwind and recharge your batteries. 

Things to do

Hope Cove has two lovely beaches, Harbour Beach and Mouthwell Sands on its doorstep. Mouthwell Sands is ideal for the family with seasonal lifeguards on duty whilst Harbour Beach is great for children and adults! who can endulge in crabbing amongst the rocks and rockpools. Harbour Beach allows dogs throughout the year whilst Mouthwell Sands will allow them from September through to May.

Every year in August is the Hope Cove Weekend, a lively yet relaxing weekend with events for all ages. Come on down and enjoy this wonderful weekend with events for all the family, including sandcastle competitions, beach racing, music and even fireworks!

If you want to take a break from the beach, take a walk on the South West Coastal Path and enjoy the breathtaking views can be enjoyed from Bolberry Down and Bolt Tail.

If you’re a golfer, bring your clubs and play a round or two at Thurlestone or Bigbury. Both great courses with stunning views along the coast and out to sea.

The towns of Salcombe and Kingsbridge are just a short drive away. Salcombe is a bustling sailor’s paradise whilst Kingsbridge has a great ‘local feel’ to it.

Just a 30 minute drive away lies the City of Plymouth – well worth wandering along the historic Barbican and Hoe, especially in the evening.

Eat and Drink

If  you’re worn out after a long day at the beach or a tough coastal walk – enjoy a wonderful meal at The Hope and Anchor or try The Cove. If you fancy something more traditional, drop into The Cottage Hotel , all sit in the heart of Hope, so not too far to walk!

If you don’t mind driving a short distance, there are plenty of wonderful places close by to eat. Thurlestone has The Village Inn serving good home made food. There is also beachside dining at South Milton’s Beachhouse or a choice of the Gastrobus or The Sloop Inn at Bantham.

Salcombe is famed for its seafood and in Fore Street you will find a tempting selection of cafes, delis, restaurants, and pubs, including The Fortescue, The Victoria and dickandwills.  At North Sands, tempt your tastebuds at The Winking Prawn or try The South Sands Hotel. For those with a sweet tooth, pop into Cranch’s sweetshop, established in 1869.

All three villages are just a short drive from the pretty market town of Kingsbridge, which has two supermarkets along with a good range of independent shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants.
