About This Property

Battisborough House – Simply gorgeous, unique house sleeping 24 with access on to coast path and stunning views

Built in 1898, Battisborough House is part Victorian country home, part Mallory Towers. With its large comfortable living accommodation set off with an impressive galleried hall and its maze of bedrooms on the upper floors it is an intriguing place to stay for all generations.

The kitchen, larder and large dining hall are designed and equipped for large groups, including a large AGA with adjoining 5 ring gas hob and industrial dishwasher, fridge and freezer. Battisborough House can be rented on a catered or self-catered basis depending upon your requirements, with the added option of erecting a gazebo for additional outdoor entertainment space should you prefer al fresco dining.

Battisborough House is the perfect setting for outward bound activities with its large grounds that drop away to reveal the most spectacular view of the sea, its woodland, lawns and tennis court. It has direct access to the South West Coast Path. Whilst tucked away at the end of a private lane it is still close to the village of Holbeton and the picturesque Yealm Estuary with the villages of Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers situated on its banks. You can walk to the beautiful Mothecombe Beach featured in films and TV adaptations like ‘Sense and Sensibility’, ‘Rebecca’ and ‘My Cousin Rachel’ or jump in the car for a 20 minutes drive to the larger beaches of Bigbury and Bantham. Wherever you go there are plenty of water sports opportunities so bring your canoes and surf boards or use the many hire facilities dotted around the South Hams.

Downstairs Battisborough House has a large welcoming entrance hall with seating and television. A large dual aspect lounge houses 3 sofas. A smaller snug has an open fireplace, sofa and table and chairs. The large dining room is fitted out with long tables and bench seating for at least 40!
From the galleried hall, a wide sweeping staircase takes you to the first floor.
The front part of the house houses the more comfortable rooms all with fabulous views. Bedrooms 1 and 2 house twin beds; bedrooms 3 and 5 have a king bed plus a single bed with a truckle underneath. Both rooms benefit from ensuite bathrooms.

There is no bedroom 4 – a project for some history buffs to explore!
Bedrooms 6 and 7 house large beds and both benefit from ensuite shower rooms.
There is also a shower room with 3 communal showers and 2 toilets, reminiscent of boarding school days! There is also a separate toilet.
Through a fire door and you are at the back of the house.

Here you will find 3 bunk rooms – bedroom 8 has bunks to sleep 10; bedrooms 9 and 10 have bunks sleeping 6. There are 3 more bathrooms in this section.
The 3rd floor houses another 65 beds! This section of the house is usually only rented out for school groups.

Battisborough House is shabby chic. It is full of character and charm and is a well loved property with families returning year after year. If you are looking for 5* quality in terms of furnishings and décor then this is not the place for you. However if you would like a stunning house in a fabulous location where you can totally relax and unwind, this is the place for you!
